What is Golden Key National Honor Society?
Golden
Key is an international academic honors organization dedicated to excellence in
scholarship, leadership, and service. The Society is interdisciplinary and
unites the talents of the brightest undergraduate students in the
world.

What is the purpose of Golden Key?
The purposes of the society are to recognize and
encourage scholastic achievement and excellence in all
undergraduate fields of study, to unite with faculty and
administrators in developing and maintaining high
standards of education, to provide economic assistance
to outstanding members by means of annual scholarships,
and to promote scholastic achievement and altruistic
conduct through voluntary service. |

How do I become a member of Golden
Key?
New members are invited to join Golden Key once each
year. Nomination is based on academic criteria. The top
15 percent of juniors and seniors enrolled are be
eligible. Part-time as well as full-time students
qualify. Last year at UMBC the required GPA for
nomination was 3.6. |

Are there scholarships available?
Undergraduate Scholarships:
Two scholarships are awarded annually to each chapter to
the outstanding junior and senior initiates. Over 1
million dollars in scholarship awards have been
presented to Golden Key members.
Eligibility: To be considered for scholarships
return the membership profile and the membership fee by
the date on the membership form.
Graduate Scholarships:
Golden Key awards annual graduate scholarships to
individuals who are recognized as "Golden Key Scholars".
These $10,000 scholarships support the society members'
post-baccalaureate study at an accredited institution of
higher learning.

I
just transferred to UMBC, can I join?
If you
are at least a junior and have completed at least 25 credits at UMBC and meet
the academic criteria, you are eligible for membership.

What happens at the Induction Ceremony?
Certificates of membership and other awards are presented at this
celebration of your achievements in the presence of family, friends, and
faculty. New honorary members are inducted and each new student member is
recognized. Light refreshments are served. No RSVP is necessary is
necessary and family and friends are welcome. If you are unable to attend
the ceremony your membership certificate will be mailed to your home
address.

When are officer elections held?
Officer
elections are held in the spring. This
is done so that newly inducted members have a chance to run for officer
positions. Becoming an officer is a great way to get involved!

I
am graduating, what will Golden Key do for me now?
You are
a lifetime member. The annual publication CONCEPTS will be
sent to you as long as you request it. If you continue your education, you may
choose to remain active with a local chapter, and you may be eligible for a
Golden Key Scholar Award. You can also stay connected to the UMBC chapter
of Golden Key through our Alumni Network. |
