Everyone is encouraged to compete. There are several competitions in the area that the Ballroom Dance club competes at every year. A list of these can be found here .

Syllabus

Competitions use a list of allowed steps, called a syllabus, to judge couples on the dance floor.

Eugene generally teaches by the International syllabus.
Karen teaches the American syllabus and will explicitly note when she's teaching off or out of category.

Description:	Hosted by Ballroom at Maryland. It is an informal competition aimed at those who are either new at the dancing or new to the world of competition. Everyone is welcome and even encouraged to participate.

D.C. Dancesport Inferno

Description:	Hosted by Ballroom at Maryland. It is the closest competition to UMBC and we usually send a good group down to compete in categories from Newcomer to Silver. A great first competition to try it out!

The Big Apple Dancesport Challenege

Description:	Hosted by The Columbia University Ballroom Dance Team. One day competition. Offers two nights of housing (Friday and Saturday night) for those who wish to explore the city on Sunday. Competition will be in all styles and all dances. There will be a social after the show. Includes The Starry Night Winter Showcase, featuring Champ/Pre-Champ finals as well as performances by a professional couple. Stay tuned for more info!

Clover Star Classic
